Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Sedation. Hypnotic. Anti convulsant.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Alcoholism and CNS depressants. Renal and hepatic impairment. Acute intermittant porphyria. Severe pulmonary insufficiency.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Pregnancy. Decreased hepatic, renal, cardiac and respiratory functions.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Hangover, mental confusion, impaired performance. Idiosyncrasy. Rashes, swelling of eyelids. Dizziness and ataxia, Overdose may produce respiratory depression, hypotention, coma and death. Tolerance and physical dependence occurs.
