Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Acromegaly. Prevention of complications following pancreatic surgery. Variceal bleeding. Seretory diarrhoeas associated with carcinoid, AIDS, cancer chemotherapy or diabetes.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Patients of diabetes mellitus on treatment.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Renal disease, DM, hypothyroidism. Pregnancy, lactation, children and elderly.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Abdominal pain, nausea, steatorrhoea, diarrhoea and gall stones, anorexia, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, loose stolls, steatorrhoea, billary tract, abnormalities. Hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia, hypothyroidism, cardiac conduction.
