Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Prophylaxis of renal or cardiac graft rejection.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy and lactation. Rare hereditary deficiency of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGPRT), including Kelley-Seegmiller or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome.
Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Active serious GI disease. Instruct patients with increased risk of skin cancer to limit sunlight exposure and use sunscreen. Neutropenia. Active peptic ulcer disease. Severe renal impairment.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Diarrhoea. Leukopenia. Super added bacterial, viral or fungal infections. Possible development of lymphoma. Vomiting, GI haemorrhage and perforation, acne, rash, alopecia, dizziness, pancreatitis, hepatitis, pulmonary fibrosis.
