Contraception (Ovulation suppression), endometriosis, adjunctive or palliative treatment for recurrent and/or metastatic breast endometrial or renal carcinoma, menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Mammary carcinoma, Prostatic carcinoma, prostatic adenoma.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient Patients sensitive to steriods. Contraindicated during pregnancy. Thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, severely impaired liver function, mssed abortion, hypercalcaemia, metrorrhagia of unknown origin, hypersensitivity to the drug.
Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Exclude breast or genital neoplasia, thromboembolic disorder. Patient may develop weight gain and fluid retention. High doses used in the treatment of cancer patients may cause cushingold symptoms. Use in pregnancy not recommended because of a possible association between administration of progestins early in pregnancy and congenital heart defects in the offspring. To be discontinued immediately if thromboembolic disorders occur. In cases of undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, adequate diagnostic measures are indicated.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Anaphylaxis and anaphylactoid reactions, thromboembolic disorders, nervousness, insomnia, somnolence, fatique, depression, dizziness and headache, urticaria, pruritus, rash, acne, hirsutism, alopecia, nausea, breast tenderness and galactorrhea, vaginal bleeding, changes in menstrual flow, amenorrhea, edema, change in weight, changes in cervical erosions or cervical secretions, cholestatic jaundice, rash with or without pruritus, psychic depression.
