Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient Renal impairment, decompensated haemolytic anaemia. Pregnancy and lactation. Concomitant use of live vaccines.
Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Routine monitoring of blood counts and Hb con. Monitor for signs of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, elderly. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, avoid inhalation. Myelosuppression may be cumulative and severe increasing risk of opporutunistic infections. Increased risk of tumour lysis syndrome in patients with high tumour burden.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Myelosuppression (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia and anaemia), fever, chills and infection. Oedema, malaise, fatique, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and weakness.
