Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Local anesthetic commonly used as a topical pain reliever. As benzocaine is? not absorbed significantly from mucous mebrane or abraded skin, so it is used in as lozenges for stomatitis and sore throat; dusting power/ointment on wounds/ulcerated surfaces and as suppository for anoreactal lesions.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient Oropharyngeal dyskinesia.
Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Excessive use as aerosol may cause aspiration pneumonia.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Allergic reactions, very prolonged use may cause methemoglobinemia.
